HealthierUS and Healthy People 2010 are two important Federal initiatives aimed at improving the health of Americans through disease prevention and health promotion. Though conceived during different time periods and by different leaders, HealthierUS and Healthy People 2010 are complementary in their efforts to involve state, regional, and local organizations to improve the health of the nation. The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) contracted with NORC to conduct an assessment of the users and uses of these two nationwide health programs.
Goals of the study were to identify:
- who is using the initiatives,
- how the initiatives are being used, and
- potential barriers to use.
NORC developed and administered self-administered mail questionnaires to State, local, and tribal health officials, analyzed data, and presented results to officials at the Department of Health and Human Services and other key stakeholders.
