West Quoted on Dropout Factory Statistics
NORC Senior Research Associate Thomas West was quoted in an October 12, 2009 styory in the Charleston Daily Mail (WV) about "dropout factories" -- schools from which fewer than 60 percent of freshmen students go on to graduate. West, part of NORC's Education and Child Development Department, worked on a study on dropout factories while at the Johns Hopkins' Center for Social Organization of Schools. In the story, West puts into perspective some statistics for three West Virginia schools that made the list of 1,907 dropout factory schools in the nation.
