NORC Research Informs Flu Discussions

Researchers in three areas at NORC are helping to inform public discussion about the seasonal and H1N1 (swine) flu viruses in the US:
- The National 2009 H1N1 Flu Survey Begun in September 2009, the National 2009 H1N1 Flu Survey is helping the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) monitor and evaluate flu vaccination efforts among adults and children.
- The Paid Sick Days Study, conducted in 2008 for the Public Welfare Foundation, found that 40% of private-sector workers and 70% of low-wage workers do not have paid sick days. It also found that workers with no paid leave were much more likely to go to work sick than workers with paid sick leave.
- Planning for an Influenza Outbreak - Doug Himberger, Senior Vice President and Director of NORC's Security, Energy, and the Environment Department speaks frequently on the topic of planning for a widespread outbreak of the flu.
