The U.S. House of Representatives is considering a bill that may fix the 'doughnut hole' or coverage gap that has existed in its Medicare Part D Prescription Drug benefit since its inception in 2006. Recent research by NORC Senior Research Scientist Elizabeth Hargrave, along with colleagues from George Washington University and the Kaiser Family Foundation, found that many seniors stop taking their medications when they reach the coverage limit and are required to pay the full cost of their drugs.
