During its history, NORC has made significant contributions to the development of knowledge about immigrants and refugees and their experiences. Early in the decade, NORC conducted the largest national survey of legal immigrants ever fielded in this country.
More recent work has focused on refugees. NORC is collecting data as part
of an outcomes study sponsored by the Office of Refugee Resettlement
that examines the extent to which refugees receive benefits and services
and charts their welfare and employment outcomes over time. The survey presents a unique opportunity to ask a comprehensive set of questions about individual refugees, including questions on topics other data sources may not address at all.
NORC has pushed the envelope in terms of conducting surveys in the language(s) of potential survey respondents and we currentlyhave a state-of-the-art methodology for translation and interpretation procedures for administering surveys in predominantly non-English languages.
NORC's Telephone Survey and Support Operations department and its Field Operations department are also skilled in managing data collection in multiple languages and handling translation needs.
