All data enclave users must complete NORC’s Data Enclave training course before accessing data in the enclave. The one day, on-site training course covers a number of topics including confidentiality obligations, disclosure techniques, and tools and processes involved in using the Data Enclave. NORC also provides a data-specific training module, as well as more general support related to the technologies used by the Data Enclave. The course supports the needs of both novice and advanced users. The primary goals of the training course are to:
- Provide users with an understanding of the responsibilities inherent in accessing sensitive microdata and the data protection approaches used
- Train users on the nuances of the specific data sets, i.e., data specific training, such as background on the survey, changes from year to year, weighting, etc.
- Train users on the logistics involved in utilizing the Data Enclave
- Train users on the software, collaboratory tools, and other resources offered with the enclave
